Town Crier - December 5th City Council Meeting


The regular City Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 5th to coincide with a public hearing for truth in taxation for the City of Winsted. All property owners in the City of Winsted were mailed a “Proposed Property Tax” statement, indicating what their proposed property taxes will be for 2008. The truth in taxation public hearing provides an opportunity for property owners to discuss any concerns they may have about their proposed taxes in the “City of Winsted.”

In other matters the City Council will review draft policies for purchasing and annexation.

The meeting will wrap up with a report from the Police Department and a project update on city hall.

The Winsted City Council will meet to discuss these items at their meeting on Wednesday, December 5th at 6 p.m. in the Winsted City Hall Council Chambers. City of Winsted awards $500,000 to AAA Galvanizing


Bonnie Quast, Deputy Mayor, presents Laxman Alreja, President/CEO of AAA Galvanizing, a check for $500,000 from the City of Winsted. The $500,000 was obtained through a grant the City of Winsted received from the Minnesota Investment Fund. AAA Galvanizing is in the process of constructing a 80,000 sq. ft. manufacturing building in Winsted and plans to employ at least fifty people at the facility. The $500,000 low interest loan will assist AAA Galvanizing in the purchasing of new equipment for their building. The loan is paid back to the city's revolving loan fund and can be used on future economic development projects in the community.

Town Crier - November 20th City Council Meeting


The Tuesday, November 20th meeting will begin with a review of correspondence from the city’s prosecuting attorney, Mike Long, regarding a blight case at 163 Main Avenue West.

Under new business, students from Holy Trinity will present their plan for the establishment of community gardens in Mill Reserve Park. The presentation is a function of the city’s new Community Garden Program, which is designed to involve youth in government. The city will be working with students from HLWW within the program later in the school year.

The City Council will also consider a request from the Winsted Lake Watershed Association to participate in the treatment of curly leaf pondweed in Winsted Lake. Curly leaf pondweed is not a native plant and can interfere with boating and other recreational activities on a lake. The Winsted Lake Watershed Association is making application to the DNR for a permit that would allow for up to 15 acres of Winsted Lake to be treated.

In another matter, the City Council will hear an appeal to a determination that roof is being maintained as a public nuisance at 163 Main Avenue West.

The Council meeting will wrap up with a report from the Winsted Fire Department.
