Town Crier - February 19th City Council Meeting

The February 19th City Council meeting will begin with a public hearing to consider the adoption of a rental housing ordinance in the City of Winsted. The ordinance sets minimum standards for residential rental units and requires these units to be permitted through an inspection process. Permit fees would be $50 per unit and would be valid for five (5) years. Rental housing permits would be required for apartment complexes, apartment units in commercial and industrial buildings, rented houses, townhomes and mobile homes, and parts of homes being rented that have dual entry and separate facilities. There is also a provision that exempts properties from permitting if they fall under similar government regulation and permitting for their rental property. A copy of the proposed ordinance is available at www.winsted.mn.us.

In another matter, the City Council will review a report from Bolton & Menk (City Engineer), regarding future planning and expenditures at the airport. The city annually receives $150,000 from the federal government for airport improvement projects, which require a 5% local match.

The City Council will also review the status of a public nuisance at 163 Main Avenue West, receive an annual report from Flagship Insurance and consider granting a variance to James and Janice Brooks, of 420 5th St. N., allowing the construction of an attached garage on the property to maintain a 16.8 ft. rear setback (25 ft. ordinance).

The meeting will wrap up with a report from Bolton & Menk.

The Winsted City Council will meet to discuss these items at their meeting on Tuesday February 19th at 6 p.m. in the Winsted City Hall Council Chambers.
